The History of Lake Trasimeno
The
Holidays Apartments Le Cime is located in the whereabouts
of the famous battle of Lake Trasimeno in which the
Punic army, lead by Hannibal all the way from Africa
through the Pyrenees and the Alps, defeated the Roman Army
dangerously close to the capital town Rome. That is why
even today many visitors come here driven by their
historical interest. During the past centuries, in the
woods surrounding the lake, people have come to hunt both
local animals and migratory birds. At the beginning of the
century also the King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele III, who
was a passionate hunter, used to be invited to hunt by the
owners of the 17th century adjacent villa.
Today many
people visit these woods because they like to hike in the
shade of pine threes and of century old oaks, but also
many others enjoy picking soft fruits or mushrooms
